The legend "Rocinante" goes out in a ball of flame
With much sadness I must tell all of the fiery demise of Rocinante / Blue Polo / Thorin's Car - The legend!!!
From Thorin himself:
"For Those of you who know her,
On Monday the 20th of February 2006, in Mt Edgecome Golfing estate, shortly after six o'clock Rocinante (affectionately known as Blue Polo) was called to serve in Valhalla.
It is said that those that the gods love die young.
The acrid smell of burning wires, the glimpse of smoke through the air conditioner vents - then the minuscule flame deep within the dashboard which only took a matter of minutes to engulf the entire car. On giving it deep consideration (although the time was too soon) I cannot think of a more fitting end to a vehicle such as this. Not content to burn politely where we had stopped her, the flames released the handbrake and she sped 20 - 30m down the hill crashing into an inept security vehicle. Unfortunately they were able to move it away to a safe distance and she could not take it with her. She did, however, manage to set fire to a small portion of the estate golfing green and its fence.
It is in this manner that she left us. So when you have your drinks tonight give pause to remember your experiences with her - over the past eight years and 157 000km she has shared a lot with me.
And in future when you wish upon a shooting star, just make sure it's not the spirit of Blue Polo chasing the stars across the heavens...
Rocinante lives on..."
